Gabby’s Journey

“Everyone is deserving of the kind of love my daughter brings me. I’m glad surrogacy is an opportunity for desiring parents to feel that same kind of love”
Though we hope that every embryo transfer is successful, that is not always the case. Approximately only 60% of all embryo transfers will result in a successful pregnancy, while 40% will not. There is no way of telling whether or not an embryo will take. Gabby, who is a 35-year-old single working mother of one, was part of the 40%. She first witnessed the joy that surrogacy brings while supporting her friend’s journey and even getting to be present in the delivery room while she and the sweet intended parents welcomed their baby boy via surrogacy. From that moment on, Gabby hoped that one day, she too would bring a couple that same immense joy. Months after, she applied to become a surrogate with EWS to initiate her journey. Within a few weeks, she was matched with a wonderful international couple. It took a few months before she could get ready to begin the process of the embryo transfer but the very anticipated day had finally arrived. She did everything that she was told and followed her medication schedule to a tee and on July 9, 2020, the doctor transferred two embryos. She felt calm and excited all at the same time, as well as confident and hopeful that things would work out. Unfortunately, her results came back negative and neither embryo had implanted. When she was given the news that the transfer had failed she felt a sadness she had never experienced before. In part for herself but mostly because she knew the intended parents would be heartbroken, as these were their only embryos. That meant the parents would not be able to go through with another IVF cycle which Gabby was sad about but ultimately understood. She was rematched with a wonderful domestic couple and is now in the process of receiving medical clearance. She is hopeful that her transfer will be successful this time around and is excited to be one step closer to fulfilling her wish of helping a loving couple complete their family.
