Anays’ Journey

“We built an amazing relationship and a mutual trust for one another.”

For some, surrogacy is a topic that we just happen to come across. Maybe it was fate or perhaps just chance, whatever you choose to call it, this was the case for Anays. It was an ordinary day when she was scrolling through her Facebook page and came across an advertisement that read, “Surrogate Mothers Needed.” Like many others, up until this point in her life, she had never heard of the term “surrogacy.” Not knowing exactly what it was, but intrigued to find out, she clicked on the Ad and learned all about the process and what it entailed. After researching some more, she decided it was something that would be perfect for her. She was a stay at home mother of two, loved being pregnant and the idea of helping someone complete their family sounded absolutely amazing! After speaking with her husband and receiving his blessing, she applied to the agency that was on the advertisement. Minutes after submitting her online application, she received an automative message stating that her application had been denied. The reason behind the denial?! Her race. She was absolutely baffled and disgusted to say the least. How can an agency deny you the right to help someone because of something as insignificant (to this process) as your race? After all, her Hispanic descent does not in any way, affect her ability to carry a child. Disappointed and discouraged, she was convinced that her dream of helping a loving couple have a child was no longer in the cards for her, because if one agency denied her already, then all other agencies would follow suit. A month later, as destiny would have it, her sister-in-law began working for a surrogacy agency. After a few months of employment, Gabby who is Anays’ sister-in-law asked if she was interested in becoming a surrogate-without knowing about her previous denial from another agency. Though very hopeful at the thought, Anays asked if her race was going to be considered during the approval process, to which Gabby assured her that it would not. Relieved at her answer, she decided to submit her online application and finally embarked on the journey that she yearned for. It wasn’t long before she received a call informing her that her application had been approved! Within a few months she was matched with an international heterosexual couple who she formed an amazing bond and friendship with. She gave birth to a healthy and beautiful baby boy in 2018 and still keeps in touch with the intended parents. They send Anays occasional updates and photos of their growing baby which she really appreciates.
